Paulo Coelho's St Joseph's Day Party, Istanbul, Turkey
I LIVED MY DREAM of meeting Paulo Coelho, the world-famous Brazilian writer, in person, on March 19, 2011.
It all began with giving the right answers to these five questions that were posted on Paulo’s blog on Sunday,
November 14, 2010 at 7 o’clock in the evening – Swiss time:Name the book by Agatha Christie that takes place on a train returning from Istanbul
What is the Capital of Turkey ?
What is the name of the stupid movie that portrays the drug dealer as the “good guy”
and the Turks as the “bad people” ?
What is the name of the Turkish writer who received the Nobel Prize in Literature
According to tradition, Noah’s Ark landed on a mountain after the Flood. What is the
name of this mountain, and the name of the country where it is located ?
The correct answers to these questions can be found at the bottom of this page.
Then, on November 21st when I opened my Inbox this e-mail from Pilar took my breath away:

INVITATION FOR ST. JOSEPH'S PARTY
You are selected for Saint Joseph's Party 2011 in Istambul, Turkey
We understand that you know the rules.
This invitation is INDIVIDUAL.
Please confirm by using this email till November 30, 2010 if you are able to attend, as we have a
huge waiting list.
OMG, I felt like I was on top of the world!!! To be one of the lucky 20 winners out of his over 5 million
readers/friends from his blog, Twitter and Facebook is indeed a miracle. Praise the Lord!
I was so overwhelmed with my good fortune that I replied to Pilar immediately – “YES, I am definitely
attending this once-in-a-lifetime event with Paulo.”
Then, I wrote to my relatives in the U.S.A. and in the Philippines telling them about my winning. I told them
that I felt like a super-lotto winner.
To this, my nephew (Rey Alexander) wrote back – “you could not compare this with lotto …” You see, he
is also an avid reader of Paulo’s books so he is pretty aware of the importance of this event.
Yes, my dear nephew, I followed your advice - “hope you make the most of it and please tell me what the
great Paulo Coelho is like.”
So, let me share with you and the rest of my friends these special photos of those precious and few moments with
Paulo and his international guests.
Now I end my narration with an excerpt from a very beautiful 1975 classic song – Times of Your Life performed by
Paul Anka …
“So gather moments while you may
Collect the dreams you dream today
Remember, will you remember
The times of your life.”
